This is a brilliant project at Llanfyllin Workhouse. We will be planting a medicinal herb garden to stimulate the senses from which there will be herbal remedy-making workshops run later on in the summer. Exciting!

SPRING TONIC HERB RAMBLE

165b1e0d9ec1f36be9f1d1b140fe166aThis is a lengthy walk over some hilly terrain. The walk is guided by Michelle Brydie, walking guide and the herbal side is led by myself. We will be identifying many of our native medicinal plants and foraging edible wild greens along the way. The walk will conclude with a fire and foraged nettle soup, fresh bread and our foraged salad to enjoy and savour!

THIS IS A FREE EVENT!

Natalie will teach us how to identify edible spring greens and medicinal herbs, talking about in particular the Spring tonic herbs such as Cleavers, Nettles, Dandelions and Chickweed.

You will need a packed lunch, suitable footwear and clothing, a notebook and pen if you wish to take notes. We will provide a tea and cake break en route.

TIME : 10.00 a.m – 4.00 p.m

Really enjoyed this herb walk. Absolutely stunning location in the Elan valley.

Wilding the Senses is a project that aims to make an outdoor space that is full of creativity and colour that everyone can enjoy. Over the coming year we’ll be designing and creating a colourful garden at the Workhouse so look out for future workshops that will include willow making, planting herbs and much more!

The project is open to all ages and the activities aim to be inclusive!

Saturday 6th May – Creative Herb Planting with Natalie Morris – Herbs to Health – learn about and plant herbs along with creative activities.

Saturday 20th May – Planting for Wildlife with Dewi Morris – learn about what plants attract and support wild life habitats

Workshops are FREE and will be from 10.30am – 1pm.

Oswestry / Shropshire

Time: 2.00 – 4.00p.m

THIS IS A FREE EVENT

We will be meeting at Gatacre car-park near the Hillfort where our ramble will commence along the country lane to the Hillfort entrance. We we will walking around the lower ramparts, taking in the historic ambience, diverse ecology and then ascending to the hill top and taking in the stunning views. We will visit the newt ponds and descend back down.

The walk will focus on medicinal native flora and their medicinal properties. We shall discuss the chemical constituents of the plants, how they exert their therapeutic action, what health problems they can treat in clincial practice and how they can be used. There will also be reference to traditional herbal medicine, folklore and history.

The walk is in association with the Oswestry Hillfort Group H.O.O.H, who campaign tireless to protect the heritage site against modern development.

MIDSUMMER HERB WALK / EVENING RAMBLE

If you love plants, herbal medicine and heady summer evenings then come and join us to celebrate high summer!
The event is also part of ‘HERB AWARENESS WEEK’.
We will be rambling around the small woodland surrounding the Natural Harmony centre. Local Medical Herbalist, Natalie Morris will be identifying our native medicinal plants and some introduced herbs in the gardens. We will be discussing their medicinal properties, what health problems they can treat and how you can use them.
There’s also woodland swings, a Labyrinth and stone circle for you to enjoy, oh and maybe a fairy or too to play with!

Elderflower cordial to follow at the end.

The walk is short in distance and covers a mostly flat terrain, suitable for all ages and abilities.

We will be celebrating the height of summer and the flower season. Not only do the flower remedies delight the senses and impart delicious vibrational healing but they have many practical, health giving applications too. We will be making wild rose petal & elderflower nourishing skin cream. Rose petal honey, rose & elderflower oxymel and St. John’s wort infused flower oil.

High summer signals the ripening of the summer fruits and so it is our time to capitalise on nature’s bounty! Berries are rich in many nutrients and medicinal phytochemicals which are beneficial to our health.
Living by the seasons, eating foods and making natural medicines seasonally all help to maintain well being in our lives and optimise our health. It is a great from of preventative medicine.
In this workshop we will be making a delicous Bilberry Elixir packed with anthocyanins, flavonoids and antioxidants which maintain healthy blood vessels, a Rowan Berry Bitter Tonic also full of vitamin C: a Superfood Blackberry Vinegar & Oxymel and a Plantain wound healing ointment.

In this workshop we will be making an Elderberry Flu-Buster to protect against Winter ailments such as coughs, colds and flu. Elderberry has a reputation as an effective anti-viral.

We will also be making remedies from Rose hips such as a tincture, syrup & vinegar. Rose hips are full of vitamin C and so help to support the immune system during the winter months.

Hawthorn berries are also prolific now so will will be making a Hawthorn berry Elixir. As are Horse Chesnuts and we will be making an ointment from them for varicose veins, piles etc.

In this workshop we will be making wild cherry bark syrup for dry, tickly coughs and an expectorant cough mixture for congested coughs.
